Price
As far as price goes, the Fire is a lot cheaper than the iPad ($300 cheaper in fact) because Apple is supposedly ‘cool’ in fact it is just expensive).
The Fire is being sold at $199 which makes it affordable for some people for Christmas for the kids or partners.
Screen
The Fire screen is 7 inches – smaller than the iPad but that means it is not so heavy and is easier to carry around. The Galaxy Note (Samsung) screen will be 5.3 inches.
Features
The Fire doesn’t have any cameras but most people nowadays have cameras in their phones. It also doesn’t have a microphone, so no chatting.
It is Wi-Fi-only no 3G
The Kindle Fire says it has 8 hours of battery life, (ten hours for the iPad 2).
Finally it only has 8GB of storage but you get free cloud storage on Amazon.
Apps
The Fire has a modified Android operating system so you get several thousand apps to choose from in Amazon’s app store for Android.
Amazon has optimized the Fire for movies, e-books and music and offers a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, the service that offers free 2-day shipping of products from Amazon and free streaming from a choice of over 11,000 movies and TV shows.
It is clear that the Kindle Fire is not an iPad but it is designed for consumers not chatters. It’s aim is to let you read books, listen to music and watch videos. It’s most direct competitor is the Barnes & Noble Nook Color.
